During quarantine, I have noticed the coming and going of excitement from various people, in reference to finding enjoyment out of the activities they have been doing to fill the time. For some this has been sports like tennis, martial arts techniques, yoga, etc, to things such as video games and Netflix. And in many cases (specific names aren’t needed, especially when I feel to a degree we all experience this) I’ve been seeing what was excitement, turn into what I describe as a sense of “meh”. Deflated, loss of passion and in many cases more disgruntled then when they had started. What is this And how do we avoid or (more likely to happen) adapt and prepare for this? Well we’ve been conditioned ( I’d say the number one culprit is the very device I am using to make this post; the “entertainment now” box, the smart phone) to not go for more than mere moments without being able to throw In another stimulus to fill that void. It has caused us to also burn through the enjoyment of new things, while also keeping us from the experimentation needed to find the activities that really speak to us. So what I am going to suggest is you wrote down 5 hobbies, activities, or (if it’s that hard) just things in general that you have heard about or seen other people do, that you have yet to do; down. Now go google “what can I learn about blank?” Or “what are the benefits or enjoyable things about blank?” and for those who wrote down things, google “what are a list of ways blank can be used” this should give you at least a “foot in the door” type type effect. Then I would write down 5 things about each of the 5 that you like about it. Then how each of those things relates to you as a person and why. Not only should you have new things you can look up to learn about, but you should be able to learn a little bit more about yourself.
