The Blurring Lines of Reality

the Japanese have said we wear 3 faces: the one you show society, the one we show close friends and family, and the one we only show ourselves. Well I would argue, with the rise of smart phones

and the ability to access the internet 24/7 at the tip of your fingers, bringing the world to your front door (and from what I was reading from a Facebook study, what was 6 degrees of separation has melted down to about 3.3) in such an invasive manner, that I believe in many cases we have developed a 4th; the one we don’t even show our consciousness selves. To a degree this has always been somewhat of the case and why dream psychology exists; our dreams being our subconscious‘ way of throwing metaphors at our conscious mind to let us know what we really feel about a situation. But what I am arguing is there is a narrative based motive our ego is feeding into that has caused a disconnect from our true-self, essence, soul, etc; that there are almost 2 entities inside each of us trying to run the show, and one of them hasn’t revealed to the other that it even exists. Peoples fear of being cancelled and rejected by their peers and culture have become so large, we have convinced ourselves of certain narratives to the point of actually believing it (well one of the two inhabiting our bodies and our core selves feel they can’t trust the other and society with who they really are for fear of actual physical harm) we have gotten the point where ideas of justice are being demanded. With people willing to literally shove it down your throat until you say you see it their way. So you pretend you believe what you say; to the point of actually convincing yourself this is what you believe and who you are. Forced apology, belief, and truth, aren’t progress, they create fake people living in a fake social order. We adjust our personalities the way we adjust our outfits and fashion; optimized for maximum efficiency. Companies have turned us and our data into the product, and that means your brand lives or dies on whether it dazzles and delights society. From a business perspective, it‘s highly efficient, but at as far as clarity of self and the preserving of one’s soul; not so much. And as Nietzsche said “those who fight with monster, might be careful, less they become monsters themselves. And when gazing into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you“ eventually the act or part you play becomes the reality of what you are. It seems people have lost track of that line, and in turn, themselves. And it has come to the point to where the mirror seems more like starring out the window at a stranger, rather than a reflection of the person you are supposed to know the most. Our society created cancel culture, but we ended up cancelling ourselves in the process.
